June 2023
Dear Constituent,
Thank you for taking the time to contact me and for making your views regarding the Report of the Privileges Committee into Boris Johnson known to me.
As you may know, I have been critical of the former Prime Minister's conduct in and outside the House of Commons, ever since reports of lockdown rule-breaking started emerging. Last year, I took the opportunity of the confidence vote in the then-Prime Minister to underline the fact that I believe that integrity should underpin the work of politicians, especially those in high office.
I intend to continue making the case for transparency and integrity in office and, as a result, last night, I voted to approve the Report of the Committee on Privileges.
I believe in being upfront with my constituents and that I have a duty to engage with them on all matters that require a vote from me. As such, I have made my intention to uphold the findings of the Committee public in the Guildford Dragon, a known and trusted local source. You can find out more about my decision and my motivation by reading the article in the Dragon available here: https://guildford-dragon.com/guildfords-mp-to-vote-in-favour-of-accepting-the-damning-report-on-boris-johnson/ .You can also read my intervention during the debate on the Report here: https://www.theyworkforyou.com/debates/?id=2023-06-19a.583.0&p=25827#g631.1
I want to take this opportunity to thank you and all the constituents in Guildford, Cranleigh, and our villages who have been in touch for helping me shape my decision.
Best wishes,
Angela Richardson MP
Member of Parliament for Guildford, Cranleigh and our villages
